Day 1.
PHNOM PENH (-/L/D)
Arrival in Phnom Penh and welcome by your guide. Transfer to your hotel in the city center. Vibrant capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh is bordered by three rivers (the Tonle Sap, the Mekong and the Bassac) which make the city a real crossroads in Indochina. Even if today Phnom Penh becomes more and more modern, you will be able to see its buildings with architecture dating from the French colonization. The charm of its emblematic monuments will seduce you. Lunch in a local restaurant. Tour of the historic district by cyclo (Wat Phnom, Train Station, Post Office, Riverside, colonial buildings. Visit the oldest temple in the city, Wat Phnom. Located north of the city center, Wat Phnom (in Khmer the temple of the hill) dates from the 14th century. This temple is the place for walking and relaxation for locals on weekends. The imposing staircase takes up Angkorian-style motifs, and will take you to the stupa of King Ponhea Yat and the pagoda. Around Wat Phnom, the French colonial district had developed. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 2.
PHNOM PENH (-/L/D)
Discovery of Phnom Penh. Visit to the opening of the Royal Palace which has been the residence of the kings since 1860 and the reign of Norodom I. Cambodia is a constitutional monarchy in which the king reigns, but does not govern, embodying the role of spiritual father of the nation. A true jewel, the buildings offer superb examples of traditional Khmer architecture. Discovery of the throne room, the moonlight pavilion, the silver pagoda with its "Emerald Buddha" made of Baccarat crystal. Visit of the National Museum in one of the most beautiful buildings in the city dating from 1917, inspired by the ancient architecture of temples and palaces. The museum houses the largest collection of Khmer art in the world with more than 14,000 pieces, sculptures, ceramics, bronzes and ethnographic objects, ranging from prehistoric times to contemporary times. Take the time to stroll between the different exhibition rooms but also in its outdoor gardens with its ponds and patio. Lunch in a local restaurant. Visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum, S-21 prison, a former secondary school transformed into a murderous prison during the reign of the Khmer Rouge. This visit will be the hardest of your trip but it will give you an overview of the most difficult, painful and dark period of the country. In the late afternoon, stroll to the Russian Market, which is one of the most important and popular markets in the city. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 3.
PHNOM PENH > KAMPONG CHNANG > BATTAMBANG (B/L/D)
Drive to Battambang passing by Kampong Chhnang which is located on the banks of the Tonle Sap River. On the way, you can see the beauty of its picturesque landscapes. The area is known for its earthenware and pottery. Even if this craft persists, it should be noted that the majority of locals live from rice farming or fishing. The region has been registered by UNESCO since 1997 as a biosphere reserve. Visit the local market to admire the pottery. Battambang, a name with a musical sound that designates the main city of Western Cambodia. The region is considered the "rice bowl" of the country, renowned for its fertility, with a lush countryside where rice and citrus fruits grow. Although it is the second largest city in the country, Battambang has remained untouched by modern construction. There reigns a pleasant atmosphere, with a certain cachet, with its colonial architecture. Lunch in a local restaurant. Guided tour of Battambang with the governor's house, the courthouse and the market. These monuments dating from colonialism have kept their French architecture. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 4.
BATTAMBANG (B/L/D)
Bike ride (or tuktuk) to discover the surrounding countryside and the Cham and Vietnamese villages. Discover rural life with a visit to a factory of rice leaves, dried bananas, rice alcohol or Prahoc (fish paste used in Khmer cuisine). Visit the village of Wat Kor and its traditional houses dating back more than a century. Lunch with a Khmer family. Meet the students of the Phare Ponleu Selpak association, an institution whose Arts school works to ensure a professional future for hundreds of students. To end the day, visit Phnom Sampov hill (by 4x4) and its Killing Cave. Today Phnom Sampov is one of the most important religious sites in the country. Visit the temple, the sanctuaries and the Killing Cave. The name Killing Cave was given to it after the Khmer Rouge period who used it to dump the bodies of victims of the region. Visit the memorial. At sunset, you will witness an extraordinary natural spectacle with the exit of the cave of thousands of bats that go hunting for insects. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 5.
BATTAMBANG > SIEM REAP (B/L/D)
Road to Siem Reap. Siem Reap, a charming little town in northern Cambodia located a few kilometers from the remains of one of the most fabulous cities of the ancient world: Angkor, the capital of the Khmer empire, which once dominated Southeast Asia. Stop at Senteurs d’Angkor. A responsible trip consists of rediscovering nature by immersing yourself in it, smelling it, feeling it and learning to know it. Throughout the visit to the Atelier, you will discover the relationships of the inhabitants with their natural environment, how they coexist. The Khmers know nature, live there harmoniously and are inspired by it. Faithfully transposing this idea into a workshop space was the first objective of this project. Lunch at the hotel school: Sala Bai. Visit to the Angkor National Museum which traces the history of the site and brings together magnificent remains of Khmer art. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6.
SIEM REAP – ANGKOR TOUR (B/L/D)
First discovery of the temples of Angkor by tuk-tuk. Direction the temple of Angkor Thom, which means "the great city", it is the largest site in the archaeological park of Angkor and the last capital of the capital of the Angkorian empire. - Bayon Temple: Located in the center of the ancient fortified city, this temple is famous for its many sculptures of faces. It is one of the most striking temples by its evocation of a stone forest. These figures with a peaceful and compassionate expression evoke the king who had them built, Jayavarman VII, or the Buddhist figure of Lokesvara, with whom the sovereign identified himself. Visit the other remains of Angkor Thom: - Baphuon Temple - The Terrace of the Elephants - The Terrace of the Leper King Lunch in a local restaurant in the heart of the Angkor sites. Visit the 8th wonder of the world, Angkor Wat: One of the most splendid human achievements to have ever seen the light of day, Angkor Wat is the most famous and beautiful monument of Angkor. It is a 12th century temple dedicated to Vishnu, built during the reign of King Suryavarman II, surrounded by vast moats of remarkable dimensions and proportions. The heart of the temple is surrounded by a series of galleries covered with sculpted bas-reliefs. Visit Ta Prohm, made famous by the film Tomb Raider, this temple nestled in the middle of the jungle is the perfect example of nature reclaiming its rights! Indeed, the large roots of the cheese trees and ficus trees have grown inside the ruins and today enhance the stones. Dinner show Apsara Dances. Night at the hotel.
Day 7.
SIEM REAP – KAMPONG KHLEANG & ROLUOS (B/L/D)
Direction Kampong Khleang, a lakeside village located about forty kilometers from Siem Reap and spared from mass tourism. This is a village, where all the houses are on stilts, which offers an exceptional natural environment, flooded plains, expanses of water as far as the eye can see, sparkling green rice fields ... Walk in the village to meet the inhabitants and stop at a house where the family raises crocodiles. Then, departure by local boat on the canals to the great lake the houses according to the seasons (1h30 of navigation). Meeting with the monks of a pagoda who will give you the blessing. In the Khmer religion, the blessing brings prosperity, luck and happiness. Lunch in a local restaurant. Visit the Roluos Temples. You will begin your journey with a stop in Lolei to observe the meticulous restoration work that has been underway for several years. Then you will visit the charming Preah Ko and end with the majestic Bakong located in a particularly peaceful and enchanting setting. Enjoy a bike ride to discover the surrounding villages and rural life. Duration of the ride (45min). During this ride, various activities will be offered such as rice threshing and local archery. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 8.
SIEM REAP – BANTEAY SREI & KBAL SPEAN (B/L/D)
Day visit to Kbal Spean (the river of a thousand lingas) north of Angkor. You reach the site after a 45-minute walk through the forest. The 1000 lingas carved in the "Valley of the Lingas" or "River of the Lingas", as it is often called, are a tribute to the Hindu god Shiva. Visit a more remote part (away from the main crowd) of the Angkor site (20km), the temple of Banteay Srei called the "citadel of women". It is one of the best-preserved temples of the site with its many mythological decorations which makes it one of the most charming temples of the archaeological park. With its small size, the pink sandstone site is surrounded by small moats and walls built of dairy and bricks. Lunch at the Bong Thom Homestay restaurant. Visit the Banteay Samre temple which is a beautiful complex dating from the 12th century. Banteay Samre is located at the heart of a legend featuring a king, who was killed by his gardener when he was surprised in the middle of the night eating cucumbers in his vegetable garden. Discover the surrounding villages to discover the palm sugar factories. Dinner in a local restaurant. Night at the hotel.
Day 9.
SIEM REAP – DEPARTURE (B/-/-)
